Learn from internationally recognized educators in the fields of ornithology, botany, mammalogy, nature photography, teaching methods, and more. Whether you are a novice or an expert, Mountain Nature Camp introduces new and unique habitats, new birds and plants, and celebrates learning, exploring, and protecting our world in a pristine mountain setting.

Develop a greater understanding and appreciation of the natural world through class discussions, programs, and field studies. Explore, discover, and share in the rich Appalachian Highland habitats.
Visit and explore some of West Virginia’s most popular natural scenic areas such as Cathedral State Park, Cranesville Swamp, Larenim Shale Barrens, Dolly Sods Wilderness, Seneca Rocks, Fernow Experimental Forest, Blackwater Falls State Park, and Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge.

Nature Leaders Training School: June 19-24

First designed by A.B. Brooks in 1929, the Nature Leaders Training School rings educators from around the country to West Virginia to explore and learn teaching methods in a pristine setting full of rare and unusual species This eighty-year old program has furthered the education of thousands and serves as a model fro environment and science education.
Lessons will have citizen science components and focus on methods of communicating nature to others. The week will be highlighted by a bioblitz inventory of unique mountain habitats.
Areas of study include: Alpha Taxonomy, Ecology, Classification, Entomology, Natural History, and Zoology.
Graduate credit is available to teachers. West Virginia Master Naturalists earn volunteer credit hours for participating.
Nature Leaders Training School is conducted in partnership with West Virginia University, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.
